The Port of Fujairah is one of the best seaports in the Middle East and the No. 4 in the Gulf
in container handling. According to the latest statistics, the port rated No. 67 globally
in container handling. The port lies outside the Strait of Hormuz, overlooking the Arabian
Sea, which is famous for its deep waters. The strategic position of the port, which is regarded
as the Eastern Gate of the UAE as well as its location midway between the East and West, helped to
attract many international shipping firms. The proximity of the seaport to the Fujairah
International Airport was a positive factor for the rise in transshipment operations.

The progress and development that the Emirate of Fujairah have achieved, especially in the sector
of tourism, have tempted Supreme Council member and ruler of Fujairah H.H.Sheikh Hamad Bin
Mohammad Al Sharqi in 1997 to issue a directive pertaining the establishment of Fujairah
Tourism Bureau (FTB) under the chairmanship of Sheikh Saeed Bin Saeed Al Sharqi for the purpose
of developing and promoting tourism, and to utilize the variant natural and cultural factors
of attraction. The government of Fujairah is actively promoting the ongoing development
of Fujairah as tourist destination, opening up great opportunities for investors to share in its
success.

The Fujairah Free Zone was established on instructions of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Muhammad
Al Sharqi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, to create a developed industrial base that
depends on exploitation of local natural resources and raw materials and encourages foreign
investments and capital to participate in the creation of varied sources of income. According
to the Emiri Edict No. 6 of 1987, the Zone was established on 28.11.1987. An independent
government board was formed to run the affairs of the Zone and to win full confidence of investors,
by offering sure guarantees in accordance with the established controls and laws. The strategic
position of Fujairah Emirate on the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, as an Eastern Gateway for
U.A.E. provides many numerous economic and commercial advantages to investors, most important
of these advantages are the shipping, sea and air lines and land routes. The Fujairah Free Zone
is one of these major utilities that played an effective role in establishing many industrial
and investment projects as a result of the advantages and facilities it offered.

The aim of the department is to offer simple and efficient Customs facilities to users of the
Port of Fujairah, Dibba Sea Port and Fujairah International Airport. With the experience gained
over the past 8 years, procedures, moulded by customers' needs, have been refined to provide
uncomplicated services. For all customs requirements and documentation the normal office hours
are 7.30 am to 2.30 pm. Staff on duty provide coverage after office hours on services such as
Bills of Entry, trans-shipment, vessel clearance certificate, crew change inspection, bonded
warehouse in/out traffic, ship handling services etc. |
